AmLife’s 10th Anniversary: The Launch of AmHope, a CSR-Driven Rehabilitation and Regenerative Centre

On August 26, 2024, I attended a milestone event in Bandar Kinrara, Selangor, where AmLife International, a leader in sleep health, celebrated its 10th anniversary by launching a groundbreaking rehabilitation and regenerative center. This center, rooted in CSR, aims to make a significant impact on Malaysian seniors, particularly those battling degenerative diseases like stroke.

Malaysia's Aging Population
As I listened to the speakers, I reflected on Malaysia's aging population—a serious issue with 15% expected to be elderly by 2030. This shift increases healthcare costs and societal burdens. Seniors face age-related challenges like muscle loss and cardiovascular diseases, with Malaysia seeing 50,000 new stroke cases annually. These statistics highlight the urgent need for effective healthcare solutions.

The Critical Role of Quality Sleep
One key takeaway was the critical role of quality sleep in preventing degenerative diseases. Mr. Lew Mun Yee, Founder and President of AmLife, emphasized that sleep disorders can greatly impact cardiovascular health and increase stroke risk. Stroke affects not just individuals but also has significant physical and financial consequences for families.
AmHope Launch: Pioneering Stroke Recovery
The event's highlight was the launch of AmHope, an advanced rehabilitation and regenerative center funded by a RM1.4 million investment from AmLife. This center aims to aid seniors dealing with stroke and other health issues with cutting-edge technology and therapies.

A key feature of AmHope is its emphasis on the critical 90-day window for stroke recovery, a period essential for brain healing. To address financial barriers, AmLife provides substantial aid, reducing physiotherapy costs to RM30 per session from the usual RM150. This 80% discount applies to all treatments and equipment, reflecting a charitable approach to care.

AmHope: Stroke Recovery and Prevention
AmHope features advanced technologies for stroke recovery and prevention, including High Potential Hydrogen Therapy (HPHT) to lower the risk of a second stroke. The center also provides Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to speed up healing and AmLife’s Japanese patented Electric Potential Therapy, which enhances regeneration and cardiovascular health, especially for immobile stroke patients.

Critical 90-Day Post-Stroke Rehabilitation and Innovative Therapies
The event also included insights from Associate Professor Dr. Khoo Ching Soong of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, who highlighted the critical importance of the first 90 days post-stroke. This period is vital for intensive rehabilitation to restore motor, speech, and cognitive functions. Dr. Khoo also discussed alternative therapies like repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), which can enhance various motor and cognitive outcomes after a stroke.

Key to Stroke Recovery and Prevention
Stroke recovery is challenging, but patients can regain significant function with the right support. The event highlighted that active individuals face a lower risk of stroke and related deaths. Dr. Choo Hao Jian, AmHope’s Director of Senior Care, stressed the importance of staying active for stroke prevention and overall well-being. His advice to seniors and stroke survivors was to stay active and embrace rehabilitation to improve mobility and quality of life.

My insights
I was deeply inspired by AmLife's impactful work through AmHope. This center is much more than a healthcare facility; it's a vital support system for individuals battling stroke and other degenerative conditions. If you or someone you know could benefit from these services, I highly encourage you to explore what AmHope has to offer.
